Eldercare Foundation’s “Gift of Age” Cabaret Slated for Friday, April 7, 2017

The Eldercare Foundation’s 10th annual “Gift of Age” Cabaret will be held in memory of the late Amelia Greiner, community advocate and founder of Home Aides of Central New York, a division of VNA Homecare. The event is scheduled for Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel and Conference Center. Tickets are $150 per person and may be purchased by calling 315-477-9301, emailing Aida Byrne or by visiting www.477home.org/events.

The evening will begin at 6pm with a cocktail hour. A formal sit-down dinner and performances by Alita Moses, an extraordinary new talent on the international jazz scene, will follow. In 2014, Moses won First Prize at the Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition in Switzerland. She has performed at the Essentially Ellington Jazz Competition in New York City, with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra in Connecticut, and with various R&B, indie and pop bands in the Philadelphia area. In May 2016, she completed a tour of Europe, selling out all 29 of her concerts. Moses brings a natural warmth to each of her performances, astounding audiences with a musical maturity beyond her years.

During the event, two individuals will be honored for their support and commitment to the mission of The Eldercare Foundation.

The Amelia Greiner Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Peter Huntington, MD in honor of his dedication and commitment to Central New York and to the countless individuals he has inspired throughout his prestigious medical career. In the spirit of Home Aides of Central New York’s founder, he has given selflessly of his time and talents in service to the community.

The Eldercare Employee Award will be presented to Vilma Benjamin, a retired home health aide, in recognition of her lifelong dedication to caring for the elderly, ill and homebound. At the time of her retirement in 2016, she had provided more than 43,000 hours of compassionate care and earned a reputation for her generous and honorable character.

"This year’s honorees are true advocates for our community’s aging population, and are dedicated to the work done by Home Aides of Central New York,” said Kate Rolf, president and chief executive officer of VNA Homecare. “They, along with our generous sponsors, advertisers and contributors, allow our agency to serve the aging, ill and frail members of our community.”
